Gaby Moreno - Pure indie inspiration

Back in 2006, went a little pub to see a Writers and Artists In The Round performance featuring local artists from around town and a few just passing through. Gaby Moreno was one of those passing through and delivered the most moving performance of the night. Immediately knew that Gaby was magnificent, and after the first few bars snapped this photo.

Since that hot August 2006 night, have followed Gaby closely as she has become one of the world's most efficient indie artists ever witnessed, as she has created a very successful self sustaining band, and globe trotting career doing what she is obviously very good at, writing great songs, performing live and making fans & friends.

With amazing frequency, when she is not busy as a lucky opening act for artists as diverse as Tracy Chapman to Fergie and Ani DiFranco, this Guatemalan born Los Angeles, California resident bounces in and out of the United States to trot the globe to play shows as far and wide as possible.

She has a new record that just hit #1 both i-Tunes' and Amazon's Latin charts within a day of the album becoming available, which is amazing news about a true indie release. But it's much more than a indie or a Latin album. The songs vary in style from traditional Latin, to English blues.

***Gaby Moreno update: Since I originally posted this in April of 2011, Gaby has transcended beyond "indie" status when she was signed to Metamorfosis‎ Records in March of 2012. In November, 2013, Gaby was nominated and ultimately won the Latin Grammy in the category for Best New Artist. A huge well deserved congratulations to Gaby.

Last week I heard about a fabulous Norwegian artist named Jerle Bernhoft who might be more known simply as Bernhoft. His music is very unique. His voice reminds me of early Al Jarreau meets Stevie Wonder, meets Jamiroquai meets Gardner Cole.... But Bernhoft is in a league all by himself, because he is a one man band. A funky one, at that. Two of his most recent videos are works of art. First because the audio portion is done in one take, live, with a multi camera video that captures all of his moves. It's well lit with great photography and basically, inspiring.

For more Bernhoft videos, check out these two posts of different songs:
